If you’re like many brides, you’ve likely been picturing your wedding since you were a little girl. Weddings are all around us: from movies to books to real-life family friends, you’ve likely had an opportunity to experience at least one wedding, even if only virtually. With all those past experiences, it may be hard to feel like you can make a unique and customized wedding, but the truth is, you can always make your wedding your own. Here are a few tips to help you get you in to the right mindset and focus on your cutomized wedding.
Uniquely You: First, and most importantly, a wedding is about the two people getting married. Yes, family and friends may have their opinions, and there may be some traditions you’d like to include. However, the easiest way to make your wedding unique is to focus on the two people that it’s truly about. Find something that helps define you as a couple that you can include in your big day. It doesn’t have to be something huge, though, which we’ll talk about next. If you’re looking for ideas on how to incorporate some unique elements, talk to your planner about the things that define you as a couple.
Don’t Boil the Ocean: Or try to reinvent the wheel. While you can (and should) add unique elements to your wedding, don’t try to make it so unique that it loses the meaning behind the event. Not every element has to be unique because the combination of elements will still ultimately be the most unique aspect of any wedding. You will not be inventing a new color, and you won’t be creating weddings. No two weddings are exactly the same, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not still a party with friends and family honoring a union between two people. Remember the core of what the day is supposed to be about and you will end up with a day that will exude a lifetime of memories.
It’s Tradition: While you’re making your wedding your own, don’t forget to include some of the elements that make a wedding a wedding! Be sure to ask your family about wedding traditions that you may want to include. This is a great way to share your culture with your wedding guests as well as adding some customization to your day. Of course, including traditions can get a little tricky, so we’ll talk about how to keep ahead of any potential issues in our next blog.
Remember that your wedding can be the day you’ve always pictured, but it may even be better than you’ve ever dreamed if you focus on the love and happiness that should be the focus of the day. Whether you’re a traditionalist or something of an original, enjoy the day and all of its meaning.
