Indian Knanaya Catholic Wedding

Every culture has its traditions, and when you’re deciding to plan your special day, including those traditions can be a wonderful foundation for the beginning of your lives together. If you’re planning alone, this has the potential to add unnecessary stress to your event. Hiring a professional can really help ease the pain of the elaborate setup. For Sohia and Ebby, having a traditional Indian Knanaya Catholic wedding was definitely a dream come true.

As I am the only event designer in the Hudson Valley that specializes in Indian weddings, I was prepared for all the tradition and style that would be included for this event, and I had the pleasure of participating in both the engagement and the wedding for this couple.

In keeping with the traditional nature of the couple’s wishes, she got engaged at IKCC (Indian Knanaya Catholic Community of Greater New York). Participating in the engagement gave me a better feel for the kind of wedding the couple was hoping to have and the types of floral arrangements that would be unique to their event.

On the day of their wedding, Sohia and Ebby had a traditional church wedding followed by a reception at The Rockleigh Country Club in New Jersey, which is known for its impeccable service and splendor. The Rockleigh was a great location to host such a luxurious event.

The couple went with pink and yellow as their main colors. We used white and hot pink roses, white stock, billy balls, seeded eucalyptus, hot pink stock, lisianthus, dusty miller, variegated pittosporum all wrapped in white satin ribbon for the bridal bouquet. The gorgeous bride was ready to make her way down the aisle dripped in finery.

For the bridesmaids, each of them wore a yellow sari with a hot pink blouse to match the colors of the wedding. Their bouquets consisted of all hot pink flowers with a pop of yellow billy balls, hot pink stock, hot pink spray roses, dusty miller, seeded eucalyptus. The beautiful bridal party only added to the wonder of the event.

With all the beauty of the bride and her ladies, I had to make sure that the centerpieces added to the overall feeling of the ceremony without competing for attention! For the tall centerpieces, we decided on white larkspur, white hydrangea, seeded eucalyptus on a tall pilsner vase. We also had tall gold candelabras to add some yellow. For the short centerpieces, we had an arrangement of white hydrangea, hot pink roses, hot pink stock, yellow spray roses, seeded eucalyptus. The cube base was wrapped in ribbon to hide the stem and add the touch of gold.

It was such a pleasure to be able to lend my expertise to this traditional Indian wedding and help make the beauty and grandeur come to life. Here’s to a happy life for the couple!
